Some racers chase the thrill. Others are the thrill—engineered for speed and baptized in burnout smoke. George Futch falls squarely in the second category. With 40 years of drag racing under his belt and a machine that’s as fierce as the man who rides it, George doesn’t just line up at the tree—he owns it.
Hailing originally from Swanton, Maryland, George grew up in a world where engines weren't just background noise—they were a way of life. Go-karts, minibikes, four-wheelers—by the time most kids were learning to ride a bike, George was already wrenching and racing. Now based in Mauldin, South Carolina, he still lives wide open with Futch Racing, representing a legacy built on grit, guts, and the relentless pursuit of speed.
His current weapon of choice? A 1998 Buell S2 ProMod, dialed in with a 116 cubic inch S&S special application motor, Zippers billet heads, and a 17:1 compression ratio that lets the competition know—this isn’t a showpiece, it’s a bullet. Built to blast down the eighth and quarter like a rocket on rails.
George competes in both the Modified and ProMod classes, flying the Futch Racing banner with pride. And he’s no stranger to the winner’s circle. Crowned the 2022 ProMod Champion, George continues to prove that experience, when paired with a monster machine, is a deadly combination.
Ask him why he races, and he won’t give you a long speech. "It’s in my blood," he says. And when you’ve been around the track as long as George has, you don’t need to explain it—you just show up, stage up, and smoke the competition.
Futch Racing is more than a team—it’s a family legacy of speed, wrench work, and relentless hustle. With a career that spans decades and a fire that still burns hot, George Futch is one of those rare racers who reminds us: legends aren’t born in the spotlight—they’re forged in the lanes, round after round, win after win.
Stay tuned. Because when George Futch fires up that Buell, you’re about to witness horsepower with a history.
